About my Project

My paper was intentionally about my curiosity about ads on every site I go to. To me most ads was annoying but some how they always seem to get my attention. I did most of the research with the library database, google, yahoo and corporation main websites. It took a while to get useful information since many websites just talked about ads on social sites but rarely talked about how it was helping businesses. Doing the research I was amaze to find out how such research is put into online ads so that it can have a longer lasting effecting. Also sites such as twitter was enabling many to advertise themselves for free which in turn made many what you make twitter go public or business start paying a monthly fee. But mostly this is link to new media because its the internet and social networking sites and the virtual world that allowing ,many businesses the opportunity to connect to millions on a daily basic.

Wiki

Honestly the only thing that I contribute to the wiki so far has been my bio. I read what others wrote but my main thing I am doing research on is identity theft. Working at the bank I was faced with fraud all day and I ran into people that did fraud and scams for a living. And the way their got the info was from the internet so I want to contribute to privacy and identity fraud so that the research I am doing so I  can contribute to the page successfully.

Privacy

Privacy is something that is uncontrollable with the internet. And the reason why is because many sites we visit aren't secure the way we would image. Many of us use the internet for shopping and bills pay. But however many people dont have an protection on their computers and without them knowing many of their personal information is shown on someone else's computer. Working at the bank for 2 years fraud was something that we try to protect. Many customers info was been sold online. Many of the individuals that was doing the fraud was getting the info from customers shopping online with credit or debit cards. 

But privacy in another term is hard for many since its easy for certain people to get delete files off the computer. So you see once it was easy for people to just ripe off mail but now you all he stuff you delete can reappear on your screen with just a few clicks so you see these no more deleting something to hide it because anyone can still pull it up.

New media is a better technology and the same way people are trying to do good they are those that coming up better ways to steal people identity and information.

So the next time you put something important in make sure the site is secure.

NEW MEDIA SO FAR

New media is the new development of mostly anything that can be use for communication. Most new media is in the form of computer(internet, blogs, social networking,), cellphones, television. But many things that we use are changing everyday. The internet has play an important role in new media. The internet allows millions of people a place to connect. Its so big now thats its in everyone hands. Most cellphone features today is based on connecting to everything at once. And the reason is the internet without the internet it will be hard for new media to connect to as much people as it is. According to blogs to html the reason why America became media advance before others was because of cheaper internet service. So you see internet is the stepping stone to be able to connect to millions and even billions. New media is taking old media made making it available to many more quickly. According to Mix, Match, a Mutate craiglist find a way to show appointment to people. Selling appointments is old using ads, and putting a list online. But someone came up with a way for you to but the address and see the actual place. This was something that was something new at first and all it did was take something that we knew it and made it better. So new media isnt just new ideas but a better way of what we know.

New Thing

These so much new things going on with new media but I think that is we are allowed to see people that we are actual talking to. Some times you want to know if someone is lying about their whereabouts so if you can actual see them face to face you will be able to know where their are. Another thing is having a gps in cellphones so that you can find someone you are looking for but the person has to give you permission before hand. This will give more parent security of where exactly their child is at a given time.

Advice to Baruch College

With mostly everyone having a smart phone I think the best thing baruch should have is an application. Blackboard is something that everybody uses but it takes a lot of steps to actual optain. If the school had its own app on the iphone or g1 it will allow access information more easier. Another thing is when class is cancel you have to travel to school to see the note on the door. With this app teachers will make their students know class is cancel. This app will make things much easier faster since its in being reach in the palms of your hands.
Another things ios introduce the virtual world to baruch. There are jsut a few online class so I think the school should have more online classes or even online classes that has video of lectures from actual classes. With so many people working and raising families bring teh virtual world to Baruch would make learning much easier.

New Media

Media has transform itsefl from tv and newspaper to wiki, blogs, socal sites and the virtual world. All froms of new media I just list you need the internet to get access to it. The interent is now a place that help people from all across the world come together from some purpose. Facebook and myspace make it easier to keep in connect with one another and also decrease the amount of mail that individual write. Mail is a from of old media because that was once a way to communicate between two people, now the internet allows many people to sen d a message in a few seconds. Sites such as Linkin that makes it easier for employers to find employee actual save lots of money in the hiring process.

Social Networking

Social networking is the easiest and fastest way to meet millions of people. The day to day communicate of millions help promote whatever you think is important to you and also advertise the person you want people to think you are.

In a corporation it helps out alot. Some companies using websites as Linkedin to get a "network of over 8 million people". This large network allows companies an opportunity to look at many candidates for a job. With so many candidates out there it is easier for an employer to find a person that they think is perfect. Websites like this saves companies lots of money and time. Another benefit of social networking has to facebook. According to Rufus Jay, Mars the chocolate company used facebook to promote they chocolate in the virtual world that helped sells in the real world. Being the first company to actual issue real chocolate and not fake ones in mail in enable many to go out and get the gift that was given in this case chocolate bar. Exposing them to the product allowed many to purchase more than one. The sells of mars is an opening for many business to realize that the opportunity to sell itself is larger in the social setting because it is just so many more people here, and sending out coupons or free items will open people out to your product or service.
Yes they are a lot of things that can go good with social networking. But the virtual world is no different than the real world and they is step backs. One set back is that sexual harassment and stalking is available. It might start small but if not taken into effect can be serious. Any thing for consumers is not everything you see or read is real. And they are many people that is using social networking for they pleasure so be careful with who you contact with and trust. Because everyone is not who they be seem to be. But for the most part social networking is just an easier place to get things done while meeting new people.

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual world was once something that I thought was just a place to have fun. Here you have a totally different world that you can be anything or anyone you want, without anyone actually knowing it you. But many companies have also see virtual as a new form of interaction and learning. According to Ed, IBM have introduce the virtual world to its employees. The way it is being used is to help training. Being that IBM has more male than female I think it is a good idea due to fact that many boys find it interested to play with video games. And the virtual is allowing man to be man and at the same time learn something that they probably wont and the reason why I say so is because the second life is allowing one top do what they probably would not do in real life. Which is given them the opportunity to try something they would because of the risk. Another thing is IBM had to say was “they can learn real-life working skills such as signing up for benefits, developing code as part of a global team, and ramping up sales skills before they meet with IBM clients.”. Having the virtual world can help company help there employee be ready for the job in a much quicker way. Who wants to sit down and hear someone talk for hour about how's to , no one. And this is a solution being its teaching you as an individual what to do and doing it on a regular the way to handle a situation becomes second nature. But the article Toys with a Second Life to me is more than revenue. It teaches children how to be an individual and most of all finance. Having children purchasing items and getting things for others make many realize that everything has a price tag with it. And you need money. So this world allows many a chance to see what can be done with money and how to actually earn money. Which will get them ready for the real world. Yes virtual is new but I think it will effect the communication skills of many. Virtual allows people to be who they want to be in front of a computer. But acting like someone you are not doesn't help you. Using virtual for every interaction with one of another to me will hurt a lot of business. As a consumer you want to actual see a real person that knows what he is doing and also isn't going to be afraid of talking to me. The virtual world isn't going to allow people to gain confidence in themselves or help out with communication unless they are being who they are. In the future technology would be talking over but regardless eye to eye communication much be there because that's the only way someone will know for sure that you are trustworthy and your words have a purpose.

Social Networking

My first social networking was sonic. I think that was what it was called it seem so long ago. It was the high school version of facebook. When myspace started I was so concerned until I finished high school. And I wanted to know what everyone was doing. Starting myspace was unlike many social networking. It was a place where you actually create your own page. It took time and at the end of the day it was as unique as you were. Unlike myspace, facebook isnt as pretty and unique as myspace pages. But it holds it owns. It easier to find people since everyone has to use they government name. With everyone on the move twitter came out. And it was something that seem weird at first. I used to wonder why would someone what to know what someone is doing all the time. But after everyone and everything was on it twitter came to be the place where news came out first. Facebook and Myspace have become to look the same expect the page uniqueness. But twitter is the one that easiest one since it just leaving comments about you and whatever is on your mind. It seem that as one get more popular than the other the more the others try to be more like it. So even though there have they own names they are have transform into a social network more and more similar to the other.

Blogs vs Wikis

Communication techniques have changed over time. The way we send message have change and the reason why has to be blame on wikis and blogs. Even though both might see the same the way communication is develop and transfer is totally different. A blog is usually  people  leaving comments about themselves from a user name. One well known blog is Grind Hustler where people can go and leave comments about anything in or effecting hip hop. Unlike blogs that is a one person thing wiki is something that more than one person can contribute to. Its been around for a long time but "just starting to take off". Wiki makes communication easier and is much  more efficient. Once having to read email after email to get the understanding of a topic wiki allows many to write what there what at once where someone can read all at once. Wiki is a better tool for companies where it allows everyone to know whats going on at once and what is expected of them. Also is going for planning and event since its available to everyone.

 Since it new and in its  transforming stage wiki needs to be available on cellphones. Being easier to get access on cellphones would allow more people to use it and contribute to it. Just like email is at your finger tip so should be the application for wiki. Also another thing is allowing the person in charge of the wiki should have a notification of new posting to make sure what is written is actually accurate.

OLD VS NEW

New media is a brand new transformation of what we had but a better format. Old media is the way that many of our parent and grandparents recieved information. Which is the newspaper, radio, television, books, journals. Telephones and computers are the biggest form of new media. Once many people wanted for the morning paper to see what happen but now news are travel faster. With a click of a button you know what is going on exactly as it is happen. Emailing and texting is another form of communication among two people where is was once writing letters. Technology has transform new media to new heights. The best way to know what is new and old media is the time fame. New media allows you know mostly everything as soon as someone else knows without having to wait for new at night or for it to be written on the first page of the newspaper. And another thing is convenient is more convenient to get to. For example cell phones allows you to get online with one application. A old media that is still around strong is television but you tube and other video sites are new media because their allow you to see what you want when you want.

Impact of New Media on Business Strategies

The ads you see when you go online isn't just popping up for no reason it's there to get your attention. Believe it or not many companies have been using facebook, twitter myspace and other social networks to advertise themself. Sites as twitter haven't yet charge a business any fee for advertisement or for sending annoucemnents. New Media allows many company to send millions of people a message in seconds. The influecne of new media on what techniques to choose what I plan to discuss in my paper. No longer is it a big deal to have a televsion commerical since many people are online so my main discussion is the impact new media have on market, does it work and is it effeft it has on old media. I hope doing this paper can help many find what is the best strategy a company can use to influence many comsumers. Another point I will like to make is the cost of new media vs old media and do the cost pay off.

New Media

I dont know what I will do without my phone. Believe it or not thats what many people have to say. Even though the use of cell phone is something that been around for many years it wasn't since recently that cellphones that has been as important as water to everyday living. The reason for this is cellphones today does more than years before. It does as today much as a computer. New media isnt just the internet its computers, telephone, military, commerece, tv and the media. TV is a form of new media that has been charging over time due to the fact its hard to have many people stay in one place for a certain period to watch a channel. For the reason many shows are now available online. Hulu the crated of "NBC and fox offers many tv shows online and had a 57% increase in viewership in the last six months of 2008"(Stross)But with the amount of shows available online and any time you want it makes it hard for many networks to have a show on for many series since many people aren't watching tv. That why I can now understand why I cant not never know what happen at the end of a series but havee watching rerun. Many might not think its fair that their favorite show is cancelled due to the lack of views but the only way you can save it is telling friends nad family to continue to watch TV in the hope that it would not be cancelled. Television network have found a way to hold views but newspaper and many author haven't actual have the success. Newpaper for many has always been the way to know what is going on around us, with a small fee of usually 50 cent. But with the internet many have access to news and information at they fingue tips and no longer need to go out and purchase a newspaper. So its sells have been decreasing. So solve this problem many newspapers are available for free while other charge a fee. This causes many newspaper to stop writing because there is no one to actually read the paper. Another problem discussed in the you tube clip old media better thab new media is that journalist has to have legit stories while still keeping up with new media so that their can stay fresh and up to date with what is going on around us. And the only wya is accepting new technology and using it to help benefit them. New Media main importance rely heavily on the internet, since its the internet that connecting everyone together. With out the internet we will still be using many old media because the internet allows everything to be faster and easier to reach many people at once.
